Poetry and Tea at Summer’s End
-August 2023
Sheltered under the leaves of the Poem Composing Tree we were privileged to witness the calmness, the peacefulness, and the light in the faces of participants as they wandered in, sat down on the ground, sipped tea, and wrote poetry. At the end of the day hundreds of poems waved from the branches. Here are a few of them.
Lovely day of quiet tea
Lovely leaves of poetry
Flowers, pink , beyond love
- Malte
Under the tree branches
Deep breath, breeze, and now at ease
Tea, company, sympathy
- Susana
Light brushes my face
A small stroke of calligraphy
Summers slips away
- Yazio
Little hidden space
Where my soul is under cover
I will come again
- Daniel
Light flecks through the leaves
Into my cup of oolong
Like joy in the dark
- Betta
Hidden in plain sight
A canopy of poems
help me find myself
- Logan
Stillness and movement
all is one as I drink tea
No one is a stranger
-Tanui
Thoughtful and quiet
It can be hard to be still
But I find my joy here
- Nicole
I gave up counting
So many smiles in Prospect Park
Peaceful summer day
- Florencia
Poem Composing Tree
August ends with tea and light
My softer self awakes.
- Natalia
Poetry & Tea
Celebrate the moment with Poetry and Tea. Explore that beauty with the linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse communities around us. Both poetry and tea give us quiet, thoughtful time to return to ourselves and to the mysteries of the universe. Both can help free us from the fear of disaster and help us live through turbulent times. Please enjoy those poems we wrote in the past year and hope to see you at one of our Poetry and Tea events!
