Wearable Ikebana with Kristina Bajunaishvili
Ikebana (sometimes translated as "living flowers") is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. There are thousands of ikebana schools and directions in Japan. While it can be formal and subject to many rules, the key principle of one of the schools, Sogetsu, states that "ikebana can be created anytime, anywhere, by anyone in any part of the world, with any kind of material.”
In this spirit, become ikebana yourself. Working with Sogetsu ikebana practitioner Kristina Bajunaishvili, who has been a part of many Summer Tea events, you will create ikebana to wear on yourself--as a headpiece, a necklace, an arm bracelet, or even a stick-on flower tattoo. Be adventurous and express yourself by becoming a walking, tea-drinking flower arrangement.
Open for participation to anyone and everyone interested. Participants can join while supplies last. All flowers and materials are provided; please do not bring your own (or forage in the park).
About the artist:
Studying Sogetsu ikebana since 2015 with Mrs. Fumiko Allinder, a long-established teacher who learned directly from the founder of Sogetsu school Sofu Teshigahara, Kristina finds great solace in ikebana and loves sharing her appreciation of this timeless art.
