Molly Herman was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Alexandria, VA. She studied at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, and the School Of Visual Arts in New York City. She has exhibited widely, and her work is in many important collections, including that of Larry Poons and Paula DeLuccia, George Faber, Counsel General of Luxembourg; Intuit Inc., Mountain View, CA.; Microworld Co., Tokyo, Japan, and Kansas City University, among others. Additionally, her paintings received feature credit in Academy Award winning movie, Still Alice.

As a painter, Molly often uses re-claimed fabrics as a meaningful collage element embedded within her painting. She also periodically experiments with pure textile (i.e. un- stretched) painted works. Whether painting or working with textiles, she is interested in finding ways to creatively move with materials as she composes rather than have a plan and execute it.

“Peace Piece” is a participatory project by Molly Herman at Summer Tea 2022. Visitors are invited to join Molly to create part of Peace Piece, everyone will ultimately shape the composition and content of the piece in response to their own individual (and then communally shared) experiences, feelings, hopes, prayers, wishes etc. as well as encouraging response to each other, as the piece is developed, shared and created.

“This is the essential "unknown" and surprising element in art, and this approach holds the belief that we are collectively all greater than the sum of each individual part. It is also a hopeful metaphor about organic growth and a way toward reconnecting and healing.”
