Happy Anniversary to Maggie’s Magic Garden
Rescheduled from September 26 due to weather.
Join Mattia "Tia" Colón for an afternoon of celebration at Maggie's Magic Garden in Harlem!
As we celebrate the anniversary of the garden, we invite the community to come together in a space of calmness and tranquility. We will gather for an immersive sound bowl garden meditation led by Tia, moving through the soothing sounds and gentle vibrations of Tibetan meditation instruments to open pathways for healing, stress relief, and focus. Attendees will also get to taste herbal teas harvested straight from the garden.
We'll also come together for Odes to Common Things, a poetry writing session led by Robin Lampman.
FREE event! All are welcome!
Meet Mattia “Tia” Colon:
Mattia “Tia” Colon is Master Level Social Worker, Meditation Facilitator & Community Gardener. It is her connection to a Vietnamese Buddhist temple in The Bronx that influences and inspires her work. Tia hosts soundbowl meditation events and medicinal tea ceremonies with diverse groups of people across NYC. She utilizes various singing bowls and other instruments to create sound frequencies to induce a relaxing and healing atmosphere. She incorporates other nature related activities such as gardening and herbalism with a contemplative twist to create powerful unique meditative experiences.
About Maggie‘s Magic Garden:
Maggie's Magic Garden, located in El Barrio, NYC, has had its doors open for nearly 35 years. At a time when upper Manhattan was covered with broken-down buildings, Maggie, a community resident, decided to clean up a lot covered in burnt building parts. Her goal was not only to create a space where people could come together, but to give them the opportunity to commune with nature. Nearly 35 years later, it continues to be just that, a place where locals and tourists alike can enjoy the outdoors while also being able to access organic, fresh food and vegetables.
This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
Private support is provided by City Parks Foundation and Partnerships for Parks through the NYC Green Fund.
